Date: 23-24  November 2019

Dear friends and colleagues,

We sincerely invite you to attend the international conference on 23 and 24 November in 2019 at Minzu University of China, Beijing. The conference will be held by School of Education, Minzu University of China with support from the International Centre for Historical Research in Education, UCL Institute of Education, the theme is 'International Perspectives on Ethnic Minority Education: History, Theory, Policy, Practice '. This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues as well as experts in the related fields for the purposes of exchanging ideas, establishing new networks and developing further discussion and collaborations.

Background

Education is vital for the identity, purpose, a sense of belonging and pride of ethnic minority peoples. It can also serve to undermine these vital features. Globalization is now providing both an opportunity, through the mobilization and integration of peoples, and a threat in terms of separatism and radicalism. It has become important to develop international perspectives on ethnic minority education, in order to shed light on its history, theory, policy and practice.

The conference will be a meeting place for scholars, researchers, graduate students, education policy-makers, and activists from across China and globally. It is a unique opportunity to present and discuss current education research, policy and practice relating to majority and minority communities. We welcome research papers addressing education for minority education from sociology, education, law, history, politics, and other relevant disciplines, as well as analyses of policy, practice case studies of campaigns and curriculum development.
